  • NPWS alerts checked this morning
  • Mountain forecast (Katoomba / Blackheath), not only Sydney CBD
  • Hero walk confirmed open if it’s a hard track
  • Plan B lookout if fog, wind or full car parks
  • Someone knows your rough plan + return window

Packing (day pack)

  • Water 1L+ per person
  • Snacks / simple lunch
  • Waterproof shell
  • Warm mid-layer (cliff tops run cold)
  • Sun hat + sunscreen
  • Grip shoes (not smooth soles)
  • Phone + offline map screenshot
  • Headlamp if any longer walk
  • Basic first aid / blister kit
  • Cash/card for parking & food

2. Half-day: Echo Point & Katoomba (≈4–5 hrs on the ground)
